One Beach, Two Continents
July 11, 2016WHOI offers students a unique Geodynamics Program that fosters interdisciplinary research among faculty, Joint Program students and postdoctoral fellows. Each year a different theme is the focus of a seminar series and a study tour to a related geologic location. The 2016 theme was ice-ocean interaction, and students and faculty went to Iceland to view glacier-ocean interactions. A bonus: Seeing where the Mid-Atlantic Ridge emerges from the sea on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula. Standing here, the Eurasian tectonic plate is on your left, the North American plate on your right.
