Moving an Island

Moving an Island

March 31, 2014

WHOI Research Assistant Richard Sullivan holds one of 50 aeolian (wind-driven) sediment traps deployed on Santa Rosa Island in Florida to study the process by which a barrier island is over-topped and “drowns” by wind and wave action. The project is being run by Rob Evans, Jeff Donnelly, and Andrew Ashton of the WHOI Coastal Systems Group and is funded by the Department of Defense to understand the effect of sea level rise on barrier islands around the country.
