Mooring the World

WHOI senior scientist Bob Weller and Ruth Curry, a senior research specialist, recover an Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) mooring in the Irminger Sea. WHOI has partnered with the National Science Foundation’s OOI Coastal and Global Scale Nodes since August 2007. As part of this project WHOI teams have been designing and deploying buoys in the North and South Atlantic and Pacific in an effort to better understand and predict the impact of climate change on the interlinked ocean-atmosphere system.
