In the Hot SeatMarch 25, 2014
Summer Student Fellow Ashley Grey investigates a coral’s response to rising ocean temperatures while working in the lab of WHOI scientist Anne Cohen. During the summer of 2013, Grey located and analyzed stress bands in coral skeleton formed when seawater becomes too hot for the the organism. The particular sample Grey is looking at is from Palau, but samples from across the tropics are helping scientists understand which coral reef ecosystems becoming stressed as a result of global warming.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
