Core-al Samples
August 13, 2007Jessica Carilli, a graduate student from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, holds two core samples that she and WHOI marine chemist Konrad Hughen have just drilled from a colony of Montastrea faveolata corals near Cayos Cohinos, Honduras Bay Islands. The samples will be used to reconstruct sea surface temperatures, salinity, and terrestrial runoff over the past 100 to 200 years. (Photo by Konrad Hughen, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
