Through the Looking Glass

Through the Looking Glass

February 25, 2018

WHOI biologist Nancy Copley (right) offers hands-on instruction on oceanographic sampling methods to undergraduates Craig Dawes from the New York City College of Technology and Jeanette Gray from Unity College. The students took part in the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship program and the Woods Hole Partnership Education Program, which bring undergraduates to WHOI to learn about ocean science. They attend lectures by Woods Hole scientists, work in the field and lab alongside world-class researchers, and traditionally spend a day on WHOI’s coastal vessel Tioga to get firsthand experience. Here they are investigating tiny crustaceans (copepods, baby crabs and lobsters) and jellyfish collected with a towed plankton net. (Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
