Shark Research at the Senate

September 9, 2018

WHOI engineer and SharkCam co-developer Amy Kukulya (center) testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in July. U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.) convened the hearing, entitled “Sharks!”, to find out about the latest developments in shark research, which is improving human lives by increasing our understanding of the ocean and commercial fisheries, spurring technological innovations, and leading to breakthroughs in medicine. The panel of witnesses included (from left to right): Al Dove, the Vice President of Research and Conservation at Georgia Aquarium; Kukulya; Cheryl Wilga, the Director of the Biology Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage; and Robert Hueter, the Director of the Center for Shark Research at Mote Marine Laboratory.
