In the 'Washing Machine'

In the ‘Washing Machine’

January 17, 2012

With a storm approaching, a team worked “in the washing machine” of a raging surf zone at the Field Research Facility in Duck, N.C. in 2011 to recover instruments measuring currents, tides, and other phenomena. The group included members of WHOI’s PVLAB, which aims to understand and model the complex forces that shape coastlines. Graduate student Melissa Moulton (blue jacket) and Steve Elgar (behind Moulton) worked on the Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy (CRAB) while WHOI research assistants Danik Forsman, Regina Yopak, Jenna Walker, and Seth Zippel (in the water, left to right) stood by to help.
