New Building to be Dedicated

September 19, 2012

Two years after groundbreaking, WHOI’s newest laboratory building will be officially dedicated September 20, 2012. The Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems (LOSOS) was funded through the National Institutes for Standards and Technology (NIST) and by WHOI and will house long-term research and technology programs that observe the ocean and receive data in real time. LOSOS is WHOI’s first “green” building, earning LEED certification for efficient, low-impact materials and systems. Key members of the design and construction team are (from left) Richard Moore of Richard Moore Environmental Consulting; Eric Mitchell of Ellenzweig Architecture and Planning; WHOI director of construction projects Ernest Charette, who oversaw the process; and Joe Hayes, Mike Hamill, and Conor McGuire from Columbia Construction Company.(Photo by Tom Kleindinst, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
