21 Days North

21 Days North

September 5, 2013

The U.S. Coast Guard awards Arctic Service Medals to anyone who spends 21 days north of 66° 33′ north latitude. By the end of a recent cruise on the Coast Guard Cutter Healy, some new crew members plus all of the science party became elegible for the recognition. On August 23, 2013, a ceremony was held on Healy‘s flight deck, with one member of each of the ship’s departments chosen to represent the awardees. WHOI geologist Lloyd Keigwin and Neal Driscoll (Scripps Institute of Oceanography) chose WHOI research assistant Marti Jeglinski (center) to represent the science crew in recognition of her work managing coring activities during the cruise.(Photo by Lloyd Keigwin, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
