In 2007, WHOI geologist Liviu Giosan and his colleagues drilled a 42-meter-deep core through sediments that have piled up since the early Danube delta began forming. The team used cores from the delta to reconstruct sea level for the Black Sea as far back as 10,000 years. Their work showed, if the flood known as “Noah’s Flood” occurred at all, it was much smaller than previously proposed by other researchers.
