Senior engineering assistant William Ostrom tests a stretch hose that will be utilized on moorings and buoys for the Ocean Observatory Initiative (OOI). The specially designed cable, which stretches like a rubber band, supports mooring tensions in all expected weather conditions and wave heights. The buoys will be linked to shore via satellite as part of OOI’s global array of tools to collect ocean data and air-sea interactions that influence weather and climate.
