Making Things Shipshape

Able Seaman Susan Coleman makes repairs to R/V Knorr while out at sea. She was participating in the DynAMITE (Dynamics of Abyssal Mixing and Interior Transports Experiment) cruise led by WHOI oceanographer Ruth Curry. The cruise focused on the processes by which the densest waters in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) are transformed into the warmer, lighter-density water of the Lower North Atlantic Deep Water (LNADW) and help drive the circulation of ocean water through the interior western basin that results.(Photo by Carolina Nobre, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
