Breaking the Ice

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy plows a path through ice in the Beaufort Sea. Evidence of Earth’s changing climate is especially visible in the Arctic, making it an important area of research. Each year several WHOI investigators make the difficult journey north to study sea ice, ocean currents, and other phenomena that are either driving or affected by changes to the Arctic ecosystem.(Photo by Chris Linder, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
