Day at the Beach

Members of the lab run by WHOI chemist Matt Charette installed equipment on a beach during a recent trip to Northeast Japan. In addition to collecting groundwater samples near the city of Sendai (shown here), the group joined a cruise on the Japanese research vessel Dai-san Kaiyo Maru to help collect water, fish, and sediment samples less than one mile from Fukushima Dai-ichi to track the spread and impact of radionuclides from the crippled nuclear power plant.(Photo by Ken Buesseler, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
