The research sub Alvin recently completed an “extreme makeover” that included a more spacious personnel sphere and more, larger viewports. The rebuilt sub now boasts three front viewports that allow the pilot and two scientist-passengers to share the view to the front, which lets them work better together to sample the seafloor or place and collect equipment.
