Hooking the Catch

Hooking the Catch

July 2, 2014

WHOI guest student Alessandro Silvano attaches a tag line to the frame of a CTD sensor during the final Line W cruise aboard the RV Knorr in May. For the past decade, Line W has monitored deep currents associated with the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) using fixed moorings and shipboard measurements as part of a long-term climate observing system. Data from the program is helping clarify how ocean circulation responds to changes in other parts of the North Atlantic and, ultimately, the ocean’s role in global climate variability.(Photo by Susan Sholi, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
