Bathed in Sulfur

Sulphur coated the frame on the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Jason during a recent cruise to the western Pacific.  Jason captured close-up images of volcanic eruptions and was bathed in liquid sulfur from a seafloor vent known as the Brimstone Pit. The vehicle was not damaged but smelled like rotten eggs! (Photo by William Sellers, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
