R/V Neil Armstrong First Arrival into Woods Hole

In April 2016, the research vessel Neil Armstrong arrived to Woods Hole with a grand welcome, including a brass band, cannon salute, and speeches from WHOI leaders and special guests.

The research vessel Neil Armstrong arrived in its home port of Woods Hole, Mass., for the first time in April 2016 to a multi-boat escort, a brass band, and a cannon salute. Speakers included Rob Munier, director of WHOI Marine Operations; David Sculley, chairman of the WHOI Board of Trustees; Mark Abbott, president and director of WHOI; Frank Herr, head of Battlespace Sensing at the Office of Naval Research; Congressman William Keating (D-Mass.); Suni Williams, NASA Astronaut; Carol Armstrong, ship’s sponsor and wife of the late Neil Armstrong; and Kent Sheasley, master of R/V Neil Armstrong.
