The Thinker

The Thinker

June 10, 2013

In May 2013, Alexi Shalapyonok, Rob Olson, and Matthew Gould (left to right) readied a tool called a FlowCytobot for deployment at the Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory in Vineyard Sound. The instrument was designed by WHOI biologists Heidi Sosik and Rob Olson to reveal the ebb and flow of microscopic animals and plants in the ocean. Most are invisible to the naked eye, but play a critical role in keeping the ocean healthy and Earth habitable.(Photo by Sean Whelan, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
