Scientist Don Anderson Honored

June 12, 2017

WHOI Senior Scientist Don Anderson (center) recently received one of WHOI’s highest honors, the Bostwick H. Ketchum Award, in recognition of his dedicated and pioneering research on harmful algal blooms (HABs)—rapidly growing microscopic algae that produce harmful effects on people or marine animals. The award honors a scientist of international standing for leadership, innovation, and linking research with societal issues. Anderson works on HABs around the globe, especially the New England species that causes paralytic shellfish poisoning. Flanking Anderson, from left, are WHOI President and Director Mark Abbott, B. H. Ketchum’s sons Dr. Paul Ketchum and Dr. Carl Ketchum, and WHOI Senior Scientist John Stegeman. (Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
