On Thin Ice

April 23, 2014

Emperor penguins are the only Antarctic birds that exclusively breed and raise their young on sea ice, a fact that could bring about their extinction as glaciers continue to melt, according to a 2012 study by WHOI biologists. The public is invited to learn more about how climate change threatens penguins and other iconic polar species in the Morss Colloquium, From Penquins to Polar Bears: The Impact of Climate Change, held on May 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.(Photo by Peter Kimball, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
