A Turn at the Winch

WHOI research specialist Daniel Torres, dressed for cold even in August, watches wire pay out from a winch to deploy a mooring in the ocean off Norway. Torres was aboard the Norwegian ship R/V Lance on a 2012 research trip, part of an international collaboration with WHOI scientist Bob Pickart to study the flow of warm water around Norway’s Svalbard Islands and into the Arctic Ocean.
