Tower of Power

Divers prepare to attach an instrument to the Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory (MVCO) air-sea interaction tower. The MVCO is a research and engineering facility operated by WHOI to facilitate regional studies of coastal processes by providing infrastructure that supports easy access to electrical power and real-time communication. The tower, which is located about three kilometers from shore, serves as a sort of power strip for a wide range of scientific equipment, with 19 ports and the ability to send data to and from the site in real time.(Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
