The country’s newest ice-capable research ship, R/V Sikuliaq, was a popular attraction during a month-long port stop in Woods Hole this summer. Visitors included U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and U.S. Representative William Keating (D-Mass.), who toured the 261-foot ship with WHOI President and Director Susan Avery (standing between them), WHOI Vice President for Marine Facilities and Operations Robert Munier, and WHOI Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean James Yoder. Relief Mate Bob Anderson and Captain Mike Hoshlyk (left) joined them for this photo. The NSF-funded ship is the only vessel in the academic fleet capable of navigating through sea ice up to 2.5 feet thick. (Photo by Jayne Doucette, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
