In November 2007, R/V Atlantis Bosun Patrick Hennessy (left) and MIT/WHOI Joint Program graduate Benjamin Walther deploy a pump mooring during the LADDER III (LArval Dispersal on the Deep East Pacific Rise) project. The mooring included two plankton pumps (one near bottom and one 75 meters above bottom, at the height of the neutrally buoyant plume) to collect planktonic larvae of hydrothermal vent animals.
