A hawsehole in the bow of the icebreaker Oden frames the work of researchers and ship’s crew as they make a hole in the ice for launching underwater vehicles. An international research team led by WHOI scientists and engineers is spending the next month in the Arctic Ocean, launching vehicles and instruments through the ice to find seafloor hot springs and, possibly, undiscovered life forms.
