Gateways to the Atlantic

A large reservoir of relatively fresh water in the Arctic region enters the North Atlantic through several small straits. Changes upstream of the gateways may be affecting the freshwater discharge to the Atlantic, which in turn can cause changes in ocean circulation and climate.
