Fair Winds and Following Seas, Finally!

The dense fog that blanketed Woods Hole for two days in late June finally cleared to blue summer skies, allowing MIT-WHOI Joint Program students to embark—two days late—on the Jake Peirson Summer Cruise. The cruise, an annual tradition for the incoming class of new graduate students, took place aboard the sailing vessel Corwith Cramer, a 134-foot brigantine run by Sea Education Association. Peirson served as assistant dean and associate dean from 1967 to 1996. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Joint Program. (Photo by Matthew Barton, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
