Buoy Overboard

WHOI mooring technicians and engineers prepare to deploy a surface buoy in the Gulf Stream in November 2005. The buoy was anchored to the seafloor and outfitted with instruments both above and below the surface of the water to measure conditions such as air and water temperature, sunlight, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and current speed and direction. It was part of the CLIMODE project that gathered information about interactions between the atmosphere and the ocean in the North Atlantic.(Photo by John Lund, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
