Heading south after a full week spent crossing from Australia to Antarctica, Peter Kimball awoke to the sight of icebergs all around the ship, and took this photo just after sunrise. Kimball, a WHOI postdoctoral scholar in the Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department, was on the 2012 research cruise to study Antarctic pack ice, helping to use the underwater robotic vehicle Jaguar to map sea ice from underneath.(Photo by Peter Kimball, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
