Jeffrey Brodeur, the Communications and Outreach Specialist at Woods Hole Sea Grant (WHSG), leads a beach cleanup activity with girls in a Falmouth, Mass., Brownie troop and the troop assistant, WHOI researcher Heather Benway. Collecting and cataloging debris found on beaches from either shore-based or sea-based sources forms one part of a WHSG program Brodeur developed to educate citizens about, and mitigate impacts of, marine debris and plastic pollution in Cape Cod’s coastal environment. Brodeur contributes data to national debris-monitoring efforts of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. (Photo courtesy of Jennifer O’Keefe Suttles)
