Whalen diving
Whalen looks for the elusive Tritonia hamnerorum, a sea slug that feeds on one species of sea fan. Sea slugs feed on chemically-defended prey, and then use their noxious compounds for their own defense. “Fish learn to avoid them because they taste bad,” she said. (Photo by Ann Tarrant)
