Brain coral
Brain corals are made of a large number of polyps held together by the calcium carbonate that they secrete. The brain coral in the picture has individual polyps that are no longer visible. They have fused into long, meandering rows that resemble the wrinkles of a human brain. (Photo by Kristen Whalen)
