A meteorological station was erected on a floe of multi-year ice. The meteorological station consists of two parts. The first to go in is made up of the instruments that measure humidity, pressure and temperature. Secondly, a mast is erected with an instrument on top which will measure wind speed and direction. This mast is secured down using guy ropes attached to the floe using ice screws. The meteorological station sends the data it collects via satellite to the scientists on dry land.
