Where Ocean and Ice Meet
When she works in Greenland's glacial fjords, WHOI physical oceanographer Fiamma Straneo's commute may involve a ship, a small fishing boat, a helicopter, or a snowmobile.
A Glacier's Pace
WHOI oceanographers ventured into remote fjords on the East Coast of Greenland, where the ice sheet meets the sea, to learn how the ocean may be having impacts on glaciers.
A Sentry at the Atlantic Gateway
Hudson Strait acts as gateway, discharging fresh water to the North Atlantic Ocean. Changes happening upstream of the gateway—in rivers, in sea ice, in the Arctic Ocean—may be adding more fresh water to the Atlantic, which can cause changes in ocean circulation and climate.
