Mariana wave-propagation simulation

Hannah Mark is an undergraduate student from the University of Chicago.

She was here as a Summer Student Fellow and made this movie using a pseudo-spectral code to propagate the scalar wave equation.

Waves propagating through oceanic crust near the Mariana Trench.

Black wavefield is for a uniform, canonical lithospheric structure.

Red is the difference between waves propagating through the uniform structure and through structure that includes flexure-induced faults.
