| Open Enrollment: October 26 - November 20, 2009Dear WHOI Employees:
It's that time again! I would like to announce that this year's Open Enrollment will take place from October 26 to November 20, 2009.
Exciting News for 2010! We are very excited to announce that we have some very positive news to share with employees about this years medical renewal. Due to a very successful negotiation with BCBS, we are able to offer more competitive medical premiums for 2010, and offer a new lower cost medical option called the "High Deductible Health Plan" for the potential of even more savings.
As employees, Open Enrollment provides us with an excellent opportunity to re-familiarize ourselves with the many great benefits WHOI provides. It is also your once a year opportunity to enroll in or make changes to your benefits for the upcoming year. It is important to remind you that decisions made during Open Enrollment are generally binding for the entire year and cannot be changed until next year's Open Enrollment, unless you experience a qualifed event that allows for benefit changes during the year. If this happens, you MUST notify the Benefits Department of such a change within 31 days of the qualifying event date.
We will once again kick off our annual Open Enrollment with WHOI's Benefits, Health and Wellness Fair, which will be held on Monday, October 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Clark 507. So, please come join your friendly HR Staff to see what's new for next year!
This year, our Benefits, Health and Wellness Fair will focus on how to achieve a better balance between your work and family life. So, take a break from your busy work schedule to see what's happening at this year's Fair. This year, we've added even more vendors, so don't miss out on this fun and informative event. And, of course, there will be plenty of healthy snack handouts to keep you going as you venture through the Fair! We'll also have a chef on hand who will offer some healthy breakfast ideas.
To tie into this year's theme, we will be offering some free educational seminars throughout the Open Enrollment period, so mark your calendars!

Finally, I want to say congratulations to the 150 participants in this year's WHOI Annual Fitness Challenge. This was our second year running this event and it was once again a great success. Thanks to sponsors such as BlueCross BlueShield, The Bostonian Group, Delta Dental, Liberty Mutual, Watson Wyatt, and the WHOI Exhibit Center, we were able to give out great prizes throughout the Challenge and host a fantastic closing ceremony. Thanks to everyone who participated and helped coordinate this year's event! Remember, we couldn't have done it without you and we hope you will continue to participate in future events.
