I'm interested in understanding physical processes responsible for ocean mixing to explore better mixing parameterizations through the combination of theories, numerical simulations, and observations.
During my PhD, I worked on finescale parameterizations of turbulent dissipation in the ocean interior. In particular, I focused on how the most recent parameterization takes into account distortions from the empirical internal wave model spectrum, because internal wave spectra are usually distorted in the proximity of mixing hotspots.
During my Postdoc, I have become interested in efficeincy of turbulent mixing (i.e., the background potential energy gain against the total turbulent energy loss due to mixing). Although the mixing efficiency has long been treated as a global constant, I recently found its highly variable nature through the analysis of microstructure datasets. I'm now exploring its relationships to possible controlling parameters.
