Observational oceanography: quantifying spatial and temporal changes in ocean circulation and water properties, and how these observed changes relate to Earth’s climate system. A particular focus has been on salinity distributions, the timing and attribution of shifts in the global water balance, and the impacts of freshwater and heat content anomalies on the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation.
Curry is an observational oceanographer who has been out measuring the world's ocean circulation and water mass properties since 1980. She is interested in how these are changing with time and their role in the global climate system. A particular focus of her research has been on global freshwater distributions, the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (MOC) and its response to greenhouse warming.
