OLI support enabled me to travel to the Liquid Jungle Laboratory in Panama to study a species of land crab that is little-known but important in structuring rainforest plant communities. I observed the crabs making mass migrations to the ocean at the beginning of the rainy season. Since their larvae had never been described, I raised them in the laboratory and studied their development. I am also using data from the PLUTO observatory to determine whether oceanographic features known as internal tidal
fronts are important in transporting the larvae back to land, where they metamorphose into juveniles.
