This includes, but is not limited to, the location, construction and repair of septic systems, hazardous material storage, safe food handling practices in public restaurants, to emergency situations like improper disposal of hazardous materials and oil spills, and response to public health issues that arise in the local schools and with the elderly and child-bearing populations (lead screening, flu, blood pressure and vaccination clinics as well as well-baby and well-mother visits). Grunden, Shellfish Constable HOURS: 8:30-4:00 Monday-Friday. A shellfish officer is also on duty 7:00 am.-7:00 p.m. and on call at all other times. The Shellfish Department is responsible for managing both the shellfish and herring resources within the town. The Department conducts a municipal shellfish aquaculture program to augment the natural recruitment of juvenile shellfish, enforces State and local shellfishing laws, monitors water quality, and actively promotes measures to protect, preserve, and improve water quality to ensure healthy and abundant shellfish from local waters.
