Emily Harrison, a research assistant in Don Anderson's lab, was supposed to be working with Dave Kulis at Salt Pond in Eastham, MA, studying the phytoplankton Alexandrium. At the last minute however, a zooplankton came along and consumed all of the Alexandrium, forever changing the course of her life. Having some time freed up suddenly, Bruce Keafer grabbed her to go on a MERHAB cruise on the Oceanus (OC402). There she met Keston Smith (then of Dartmouth College, now of WHOI) and it was love at first sight. They were married less than a year later and the couple is now expecting their first child this week. (2011-11-10).
