Monitoring Cape Wind

This support will allow me to rapidly initiate a program to monitor the underwater ambient noise, anthropogenic and biological sounds at the Cape Wind wind farm site prior to installation of the pilings and turbines. These early measurements and monitoring abilities will provide (a) key baseline information regarding wind farm operations, thus providing leverage for future funding at additional proposed wind farm sites (from Office of Naval Research and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement), and (b) crucial proof-of-concept data which will facilitate NSF proposals for applying WHOI's passive acoustic to examine marine acoustic ecology, biodiversity, species abundances and habitat changes (NSF’s Biological Oceanography and Ocean Observation Initiatives).
