Researcher Leigh Hickmott tags a pilot whale using a digital recording tag (D-Tag) during the Mediterranean 2009 research cruise — part of an ongoing, international and interdisciplinary effort to better understand whale behavior. Follow researchers on board the RV Alliance as they study the effects of sound on beaked whales and other marine mammals. Learn more about the D-tag, which was developed by researchers and engineers at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, in today’s Science Made Public talk.
Research was conducted under Permit No. 14241 issued by National Marine Fisheries Service under the authority of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
