Alvin being taken off Atlantis for overhaul.

Time for a well earned rest

The famed submersible Alvin is hoisted off of the research vessel Atlantis and on to the WHOI pier in December 2000 for its periodic top-to-bottom, inside-and-out maintenance. Since 1964, the sub has made more than 4,400 dives and spent more than 30,000 hours in the deep.
