A Titanic Task

William Lange (right), director of the Advanced Imaging and Visualization Laboratory at WHOI, Dave Conlin (center), chief of the National Parks Service's Submerged Resources Center, and James Delgado (left), director of maritime heritage at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration discuss images of the wreck of RMS Titanic. Efforts to preserve the wreck site have focused on the digital: thousands of conventional and stereoscopic images are helping marine archaeologists document and map the ship and surrounding debris field. On September 8, Ocean Science Exhibit Center will have special exhibits and activities coinciding with a sold-out public event where people can learn about efforts to preserve the wreck virtually for generations to come.
