Three days and counting

It is now three days before I leave. We (the science party) had a small panic over the weekend when we found out that the R/V Melville was not going to dock in Brisbane where we had thought it would. Worried that we should be changing our hotel reservations (we won’t be staying on the ship immediately) we started trying to figure out exactly where the hotels and ship would be. There is a river than runs through Brisbane, and it turns out the hotels and the ship will be on opposite banks. But, I don’t believe we have to worry, as there is a ferry system that runs along the river and we should be able to use to get to and from the Melville. I’ll let you know how that goes once we get there.

In the mean time, tomorrow is a holiday and although I have massive amounts of work to do, including trying to get this web site ready to go live, I think I will use holiday as an excuse to start my packing. What should I take with me for a two-month trip, as there will be no access to shops once we are at sea. I have to take my computer, a toothbrush of course, and I am taking a camera, but the first thing I am packing is a sweatshirt so I’ll have something warm to wear when I arrive back home again in Boston in January.
