Article I - Name and Mission

1.1 Name.
The name of this Corporation shall be the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

1.2 Corporate Office.
The principal office of this Corporation shall be in the Town of Falmouth, Barnstable County in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

1.3 Mission.
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is a private, independent, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to research and education to advance understanding of the ocean and its interaction with the Earth system, and to communicating this understanding for the benefit of society.

The President and Director shall have a statement of policies to accomplish this mission published annually in the Board of Trustees and Corporation Handbook or similar publication.
