During the construction of the Long Core system, a 10,000 square foot wing was added to the existing Mclean Laboratory. Funds for the addition were provided by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The ?west wing? was ready for occupancy in the Spring of 2006.

New racks for storage of long core samples await sea trials. The new storage facility [~6600 square feet ] also has racks for dredge and submersible samples, a walk in refrigerator and a special dry room for sulfide chimneys from hydrothermal vents.

View in the existing core storage space at the Mclean Laboratory. The original lab, built in 1980 was completely full of sea floor samples when construction on the west wing began.

The new addition also has two spaces dedicated to the support of Long Core operations. A high-bay with a 10 ton overhead bridge crane and a special workshop and tool room are adjacent to the new storage facility.

Long Core equipment was staged, fabricated and tested in the Hi-bay.

 More equipment in the Hi-bay.
